Dynamic DRX Adaptation Algorithm for Elastic Traffic in UMTS Networks

چکیده

In wireless networks, maximizing throughput and minimizing energy consumption are two conflicting objectives. For elastic flows, it is important to enhance the throughput since it directly affects the quality-ofservice (QoS) of users. At the same time, the energy consumption should be minimized in order to prolong the battery lifetime of the mobile station. In this paper, we propose an adaptive algorithm that adjusts the parameters of the sleep mode operation in Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) networks. The proposed algorithm is designed to efficiently tradeoff throughput for energy saving when transferring elastic flows. The extensive simulation results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms the legacy algorithm in terms of user satisfaction which is defined as inversely proportional to the multiplication of service completion time and energy consumption.
